TODD SERLIN
ABOUT
A childhood fascination with monsters and myths evolved into enigmatic faces, primitive subjects and controlled chaos. He intentionally references elements of danger and turmoil, bridging a unique perspective between the conscious and subconscious parallels in our collective personalities, underlining tensions, and the connective tissue that connects the naive innocent introverted child to the societal conditioned extroverted adult.
Serlin’s practice often projects a false sense of youthful simplicity that, upon closer look, reveals facets of self-perception and a critical worldview. Whether in abstractions or figurative, Serlin’s paintings and drawings suggest that our experiences can be distilled into a momentary figment, bound by real consequence.
